In December, the Planning Department voted to recommend the following changes to the existing ADU ordinance:
Clarify that the requirement for stairways to ADUs above the first floor must be located on the rear side of the building applies only to exterior stairways
Remove the bedroom restriction
Allow new detached ADUs (currently detached ADUs can only be made from converting existing external structures)
Remove the owner occupancy requirement
The only proposed change not recommended by the Planning Department is to remove the single meter utility requirement. NSR provided REALTOR® testimony in support of these changes.
