Essex is moving to phase three of their zoning bylaw review

Essex, working in conjunction with the Metropolitan Arean Planning Council (MAPC), is moving to phase three of their zoning bylaw review.

Please see the three phases below:

  1. November to December 2021-Zoning bylaw review and stakeholder interviews.
  2. January to March 2022-Planning Board meetings and community outreach.
  3. April 2022-Zoning recommendations finalized.

The town will be hosting another virtual forum where MAPC will be sharing results from the first two phases of the zoning bylaw review and will present the draft zoning recommendations.

The Essex Board of Selectmen will also be sharing draft state compliance guidelines for potential zoning amendments related multifamily zoning requirements for MBTA communities (Section 3A of M.G.L. ch. 40A). The Town of Essex is hosting a virtual community forum (February 15, 7-8:30PM) to discuss potential changes to the town’s existing zoning bylaws. Forum attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and share their opinion about how zoning should be or shouldn't be updated.
