Essex Zoning Bylaw Review
Posted on
January 14th at 1:59pm.
In association with the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC), the Town of Essex is reviewing and updating its zoning bylaw. Essex zoning currently consists of a general zoning district in which all types of land uses are allowed if the lot meets the minimum land area requirements and frontage and three additional small, distinct zoning districts (Downtown, Southern Conomo Point, and Central Conomo Point).
Timeline for Reviewal Process
- November to December 21: Zoning bylaw review and stakeholder interviews
- January to March 2022: Planning Board meetings and community outreach (including focus groups, Town-wide survey, and community forums)
- April 2022: Zoning recommendations being finalized
MAPC will make recommendations to the town based on interviews with stakeholders (Planning Board Member, Zoning Board of Appeals Members, etc.), feedback from the public, and an audit of existing zoning regulations. MPAC will recommend, among other things, whether Essex should establish new distinct zoning districts or keep the General district with some minor changes.
