Swampscott Residents Approve Land Purchase
June 24th at 3:37pm.
At a Special Town Meeting, Swampscott residents voted 214-3 to approve the acquisition of three parcels of land for $8.875 million. Two of the parcels are wooded areas adjacent to Archer Street, while the third is the Hawthorne Restaurant Property.
The town plans to convert the land adjacent to Archer Street into open space. The planned use of the Hawthorne by the Sea property was not decided at the Town Meeting. The current use of the Hawthorne property will continue for another year beyond the sale by way of the lease. Residents will be able to determine the future use of the property at the 2023 Swampscott Town Meeting.
With 19 acres of remaining buildable land, these purchases make up over 50 percent of all developable land left in Swampscott.
