Swampscott plans to purchase property to convert to open space
Posted on May 19th at 9:32am.
At last Monday’s Swampscott Town Meeting, the Select Board announced a plan to acquire the Hawthorne restaurant property and two wooded parcels of land adjacent to Archer Street. The town plans to convert the parcels of land adjacent to Archer Street into open space and the Hawthorne property into a park.
With 19 acres of remaining buildable land, these purchases make up over 50 percent of all developable land left in Swampscott. The purchases would remain open space and undevelopable in perpetuity.
The Select Board is holding a meeting at 6:00 PM on Thursday, May 19 to discuss the acquisition of these lots. Swampscott residents will vote to approve the potential purchases at a Special Town Meeting on June 15. Updates, including the time and location of the Special Town Meeting will be posted to the NSR blog.
