
Salem ADU Ordinance Vote

The Salem City Council of the Whole met on Thursday, January 19th and voted on proposed changes to the existing ADU ordinance. Please see the voting results below:
- Clarify that the requirement for stairways to ADUs above the first floor must be located on the rear side of the building applies only to exterior stairways (9-0 in favor)
- Remove the bedroom restriction (9-0 in favor)
- Allow new detached ADUs (8-1 in favor)
- Remove the owner occupancy requirement (5-4 in favor)
The City Council will hold its regular meeting on Thursday, January 26th for the final vote. City Councilor Lev McClain was absent and with Councilor Robert McCarthy stepping in to be Acting Mayor, there are currently 10 City Council members in Salem. Updates will be posted on the NSR blog.
