The Essex Greenbelt Association was awarded a $162,500 state grant to preserve land adjacent to Haverhill’s Crystal Lake drinking water supply. Greenbelt is a non-profit devoted to preserving open space. The Conservation Partnership Grant Program, which was created to support non-profits efforts to preserve suitable land for recreation and conservation, awarded the grant to the Essex Greenbelt Association.
The grant will be used to purchase 18.61 acres of land for passive recreation, wildlife habitat, and watershed protection purposes. This purchase supports Greenbelt’s ongoing efforts to work with Haverhill to jointly purchase the development rights of 54 acres of land abutting or near Crystal Lake.
