Updates to Salem ADU Ordinance

The Salem Mayor’s Office submitted an ordinance to update the city’s existing ADU regulations. The ordinance would do the following:

  • Allowed detached ADUs to be built within a new detached accessory building
  • Remove the owner occupancy requirement
  • The single-meter utility requirement no longer applies to water
  • Remove the 2-bedroom maximum

The City Council will vote to refer the ordinance to the Planning Board so they can hold a Joint Public Hearing. Updates, including the date of potential Public Hearings will be posted on the NSR Blog.
