After discussing the proposed ADU ordinance at the September 4th and 18th City Council meetings, the Beverly City Council is seeking a recommendation on potential revisions from the Planning Board. The decision to seek a recommendation from the Planning Board about the ADU ordinance centers around the following issues:
Parking requirement for ADU owners
Question of whether zoning variances should be allowed to construct ADUs
Minimum occupancy requirement, so ADUs cannot be used as short-term rentals
Related to zoning variances, the proposed Beverly ADU ordinance as currently constructed does allow the Zoning Board of Appeals to provide permit relief for maximum height requirements, square footage, and setback requirements.
The City Council will continue the discussions about ADUs at their upcoming meeting on October 3, 2023, at 7:00 PM.
Updates on the Beverly ADU ordinance will be posted to the NSR blog.
