Governor Baker has signed an executive order that states individuals in public, both inside and outdoors, must wear face coverings if they are not able to maintain a distance of 6 feet from every other person. In addition, face coverings are required at all times inside grocery stores, pharmacies, and other retail stores as well as within public or shared transportation.
The order will go into effect on May 6th. Comes with a civil fine of up to $300 per violation. On the North Shore note that some municipalities already have face covering orders in place. Where the local order would be stricter it will take precedence.
Those with medical conditions preventing them from wearing a face covering and children under two are exempt from the order.
