Signature Collection for Danvers CPA Ballot Question

Citizens of Danvers are collecting signatures on a petition that would place the acceptance of the Community Preservation Act (CPA) on the ballot for the May 3rd, 2022, town election.
The Community Preservation Act supports open space, historic preservation, community housing and recreation projects and would be funded by a 1% surcharge on real property tax bills and a state matching grant program. Based on current property values, a 1% surcharge in FY 2022 would have generated $841,852 in local CPA funds for Danvers, plus an additional $331,437 in state funds, for a total of $1.173 million. The tax would cost the average taxpayer in Danvers approximately $68 annually.
If approved on May 3, 2022, a local Community Preservation Committee (CPC) would be created, pending a vote at the next Danvers town meeting. The CPC would be authorized to review qualifying project proposals and make funding recommendations at future town meetings.
Danvers residents seeking to sign the petition may do so at Tapley Hall on Saturday, February 19th and 26th from 10-12:00 PM. For questions or additional information please contact REALTOR® member Dan Bennett at 978-828-0296 or by email at danbennettre@outlook.com.
