On January 20, 2022, the Salem City Council Ordinance Committee met to review a new environmentally focused ordinance that would set new requirements for municipal buildings.
While the municipal green building ordinance is being reviewed, new regulations on private construction are being written and considered by the City Planning Department.
In 2020, a green building ordinance applying to both private and public buildings was submitted to the City Council that included energy audits and required installation of solar panels. NSR successfully advocated in opposition to that ordinance.
The Planning Board and City Council are currently working to find a date and time for a joint hearing. Any updates regarding the status of this new ordinance will be posted to the NSR Advocacy Blog.
