Preserving Salem is holding a conference titled Preservation in a Changing Climate on September 12, 2023, to discuss the ongoing impacts of climate change on historic resources. The conference will be held at the Auditorium at the Peabody Essex Museum located at 161 Essex Street in Salem and the registration is $50 dollars.
Hosted by the City of Salem and the Salem Preservation Partners, the conference will feature a full day of panel discussions, lunch, extended question and answer sessions with presenters. The closing reception will feature the new Massachusetts Climate Chief, Melissa Hoffer.
Among the topics to be discussed include:
The effects of coastal and riverine flooding, wind damage, excessive rain, rising humidity and heat on historic resources
Adaptive strategies to make historic buildings and neighborhoods more resilient and sustainable
Nontraditional solutions, experimental approaches, and alternative building materials
