The Salem City Council and Planning Board are holding a joint meeting on Wednesday, November 30th at 6:30 PM to discuss proposed amendments to the city’s ADU ordinance. Remove the 2-bedroom restriction
Allow new detached ADUs (currently detached ADUs can only be built in existing structures)
Reduce setback for detached ADUs to 5-feet (currently 15-40 feet depending on the zoning district)
Remove the single-meter utility requirement for water
Remove owner occupancy requirements
Clarifies that the requirement for stairs to be on the side or rear of the property applies to exterior stairs
