Tomorrow, March 30 at 6:30pm, a Joint Meeting of the Salem Planning Board and the City Council will hold a Public Hearing about the Affordable Accessory Dwelling Unit Ordinance.
The ordinance would allow for by-right construction of ADUs (no special permit necessary) within the principal structure on a property or an existing accessory structure. ADUs could be constructed in a new accessory structure with a special permit. However, to obtain the building permit the ordinance also mandates a rental control measure limiting rent to 70% of HUD Fair Market Value.
NSR has been in discussions with Salem elected officials about the ordinance and how the ordinance could be structured to best produce housing units. You can get details on the Public Hearing here.
