Salem city officials, and representatives from Prime Group presented three broad frameworks for the redevelopment of Shetland Park. Each framework’s plans for the two existing Shetland Park buildings (the northern most buildings that run parallel to the South River) focus primarily on commercial development. Where the frameworks differ is how to balance residential, retail and civic uses around the commercial development.
Please see a brief summary of each of the frameworks listed below:
Framework 1: 850 to 950 possible residential units with approximately 250,000 square feet of potential open space.
Framework 2: 950 to 1050 possible residential units with more potential open space (than framework 1) achieved by slightly taller buildings.
Framework 3: 1,150 to 1,400 units with the tallest buildings, a destination waterfront park looking out to Salem Harbor and approximately 300,000 square feet of potential open space.
Residents were able to voice support for each framework and express their overall priorities for the redevelopment of Shetland Park.
