Peabody is in the process of updating its Recreation and Open Space Plan and is seeking feedback from residents. The Recreation and Open Space Plan will serve as a roadmap for the city’s open space conservation efforts. In addition, the plan will establish goals and objectives based on community input with an overarching goal to meet eligibility requirements for open space grants from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Please see a summary of the six goals in Peabody’s Recreation and Open Space Plan below:
- Goal 1: Develop and maintain open space while improving access and connectivity among open spaces, recreational facilities and other important city resources.
- Goal 2: Improve management of existing open space, natural resources, and recreational facilities.
- Goal 3: Improve coordination between city departments, committees, local businesses and organizations with the common goal of maintaining and/or enhancing open space, natural resources and recreation within Peabody and the surrounding municipalities.
- Goal 4: Ensure proper implementation of the Recreation and Open Space Plan during the next 7 years.
- Goal 5: Preserve, restore and enhance Peabody’s natural resources that provide resilience to the effects of climate change.
- Goal 6: Increase equitable access to quality parks, recreational facilities, as well as programs that are welcoming to everyone.
Peabody is holding a workshop for the city’s Recreation and Open Space Plan on Tuesday, April 4th at 5:30 PM in the Wiggin Auditorium at Peabody City Hall. Updates will be posted on the NSR blog.
