Moratorium on Multifamily Housing Development Proposed in Ipswich
Posted on February 9th at 4:39pm.
The Ipswich Select Board has proposed a 2-year moratorium on multifamily housing. The moratorium would do the following:
Building permits would not be issued for multifamily (3 or more units) residential development
Multi-family residential development would only be permitted if at least 25% of the units were affordable and added to the state’s subsidized housing inventory
Single family houses and subdivisions that create single-family houses would still be permitted
UPDATE
At the February 14 Select Board meeting, the Select Board voted to table the proposed moratorium on multifamily housing. The Planning Board and the Select Board decided to schedule a joint meeting to further discuss the practical issues on how the moratorium would work. That meeting has not yet been scheduled.
Additional updates, including upcoming public hearings, will be posted to the NSR advocacy blog.
