Today, Governor Charlie Baker signed into law a housing security bill that will halt evictions and foreclosures during the state of emergency.
Lawmakers came to a deal late last week on the details of the bill. The legislation creates a moratorium on all stages of the eviction and foreclosure process. There is also protection from late penalties and reporting to credit agencies if an inability to pay can be demonstrated.
The moratorium will last for 120 days or until 45 days after the state of emergency is lifted, whichever is first.
