The Green Marblehead Committee met with the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC) to discuss Marblehead’s draft net zero roadmap. The committee previously worked with the MPAC to complete a community-wide carbon emission inventory. The roadmap suggested several strategies to meet the town’s 2040 net zero goal, including:
“Lead by example” by increasing the town’s buildings’ efficiency
Create incentives to address the “prohibitive” cost of solar installation
Adding solar panels to municipal buildings as they are replaced or constructed
Create an action plan to promote environmental justice
Purchasing a new fleet of zero-emission town vehicles
Hiring a sustainability coordinator
Updates on future drafts of the Marblehead net zero roadmap will be posted on the NSR blog.
