The Marblehead Housing Production Plan Implementation Committee is holding a meeting on Tuesday, July 25th at 3:30 PM to discuss the timeline and future public outreach efforts for MBTA Communities zoning (3A).
Earlier this year, Marblehead reached interim compliance by submitting an action plan to the Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development. To reach final compliance, Marblehead is required to create a zoning district(s) with a minimum district size of 27 that has a minimum multi-family district unit capacity of 897 units.
If a MBTA community is not in compliance with Section 3A, that MBTA community will not be eligible for funds from the following grant programs: Housing Choice Initiative, Local Capital Projects Fund, and MassWorks infrastructure program. In addition, the Attorney General’s office stated that MBTA communities do not reach compliance with 3A risk liability under federal and state fair housing laws.
Updates, including future meetings to discuss compliance with 3A in Marblehead, will be posted on the NSR blog.
