On July 27, 2023, the Ipswich Planning Board held a meeting where they discussed a potential zoning amendment to the town’s ADU ordinance. Please see a summary of the proposed changes below:
Increase the maximum floor area from 900 square feet to 1000 square feet
Remove the one-bedroom and one-bathroom maximum
Require the minimum leasing period of an ADU to be 30 days
The Planning Department cited the increased flexibility that property owners would enjoy from being able to build ADUs with more than one bedroom. Additionally, the minimum leasing period of 30 days would prohibit ADUs from being utilized as short-term rentals.
