Fire Departments Suspend Smoke and CO Alarm Inspections

Please note that these policies can change from day to day or even hour to hour. NSAR will keep this list updated to the best of our ability but the most up to date information can be found at the local fire departments.
Some North Shore fire departments have suspended Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm Inspections due to concerns relating to the Coronavirus. Below is a list of confirmed policies adopted by our local cities and towns. This list will be updated as needed over the coming days and weeks.
If there is no specific date for the end of the suspension, or inspections are still ongoing, the date when this information was confirmed is in parentheses.
- Beverly: Suspended until 3/30
- Danvers: Suspended through 3/23 and then reassess
- Essex: Suspended until further notice (3/17)
- Georgetown: Suspended two weeks (from 3/17)
- Gloucester: Still ongoing, inspector will confirm that no one on the property is sick and immediately end the inspection if anyone appears sick during inspection (3/17)
- Hamilton: Suspended two to four weeks (from 3/17)
- Haverhill: Still ongoing without interruption (3/17)
- Ipswich: Suspended until 4/7
- Lynn: Suspended two weeks (from 3/17)
- Manchester: Canceling all appointments not currently scheduled
- Marblehead: Suspended until 4/6
- Merrimac: Still ongoing without interruption (3/17)
- Middleton: Suspended until 3/30
- Nahant: Suspended until 4/1
- Peabody: Still scheduling appointments, have all information ready and call to set up an appointment (3/17)
- Salem: Fire Prevention Department Closed (3/18)
- Saugus: Still scheduling appointments, do not go into the office, mail in form and check
- Swampscott: Suspended for any occupied property until Registry of Deeds reopens to onsite closings
- Topsfield: Still ongoing without interruption (3/17)
- Wenham: Suspended at least 2-3 weeks (from 3/17)
