The cleanup of the Creese and Cook Tannery superfund site in Danvers is receiving $24.3 million from the Federal Government for cleanup efforts. Owned by the Creese and Cook Tannery site from 1903-1981, the soil was contaminated by industrial waste disposed in two landfill sites on the property. In 2013, the property was added to the EPA’s Super Fund Program’s National Priorities List in 2013.
In 2019, the EPA finalized the plan to clean up the site. The $24.3 million will be used to excavate approximately 62,500 cubic yards of contaminated soil. The material will then be consolidated, graded and capped.
The plan is for the cleanup to start in the summer of 2024. Updates will be posted on the NSR blog.
