The Danvers Planning Division in conjunction with the Planning Board are holding their first informational session on Tuesday, August 1st at 7:00 PM to discuss the multi-family zoning requirements for MBTA communities.
Also referred to as 3A, the MBTA multi-family zoning law would require Danvers to zone for 1,176 units at a minimum density of 15 units per acre. This equates to 10% of the total number of housing units in Danvers, which is the requirement for MBTA adjacent communities.
Danvers reached interim compliance after submitting an action plan to the Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development in January 2023 and has until December 31, 2024, to reach final compliance.
Communities that do not comply with 3A may face a possible housing discrimination lawsuit from the Attorney General’s office, and loss of access to the Local Captial Projects Fund and grant funding from the Massworks and Community One-stop Application funds.
Updates, including future 3A informational sessions, will be posted on the NSR blog.
