At the August 8, 2023, Wenham Selectboard meeting, Conservation and Open Space Coordinator Kate Mallory made a presentation to the Selectboard on the Wenham Tree Management Plan. Initially adopted in 2018, the Wenham Tree Management Plan seeks to combat climate change and make Wenham more resilient.
As of the Selectboard Meeting, Wenham has implemented the following strategies:
Created a Town-wide Heritage Tree Program to preserve and replenish Town trees
Create a Town-wide Tree Policy
Become a Tree City USA Member
As the project continues and increases in visibility, the project will be incorporated into Wenham’s sustainability initiatives, which include:
Green infrastructure, including solar panels, charging stations, etc.
Natural resilience to flooding by protecting Wenham’s wetlands
Wenham is currently working with the Metropolitan Area Planning Council and is seeking additional funding to accelerate climate resilience related projects.
