State House Moves Forward with Tax on Short-Term Rentals


The Massachusetts House of Representatives passed a bill on Thursday that imposes a tax on short term rentals and will allow local communities to add an additional tax. The bill will now make its way to Senate. This will allow communities that have been seeking a way to collect revenue from short term rentals to move ahead with their plans. The City of Salem sent a home-rule petition to the legislature earlier in the year seeking permission to tax short term rental in their community.
