Election 2018: Southern Essex District Registrar of Deeds John O'Brien Wins Democratic Primary

"Long-time Southern Essex Registrar of Deeds John O'Brien held off challenger Alice Merkl in the Democratic primary on Tuesday according to unofficial results. 

O'Brien won big in his hometown of Lynn and also took Haverhill, the district's two largest communities, to overcome a strong challenge by Merkl. She won her hometown of Salem and also prevailed in Gloucester, Topsfield and Wenham.

O'Brien will now face Republican Jonathan Ring in the Nov. 6 final election. Ring did not have an opponent in the Republican primary."

NOTE: Independent Candidate David Colpitts of Salem will also appear on the General Election ballot for Register of Deeds. 

Final Democratic Primary Results:

John O'Brien: 24,233 (55.72%)

Alice Merkl: 19,260 (44.28%)
