Demolition Delay Defeated in West Newbury

The Demolition Delay Bylaw proposed by the West Newbury Historical Commission was voted down by a considerable margin at Monday night's Town Meeting. NSAR President, Patrick Maguire attended the meeting and presented the REALTOR® position in opposition to the bylaw change. The proposed bylaw would have required buildings in town that are 100 years old or older to be subject to review by the Town's Historical Commission and possibly face a 9-month delay period before they could be demolished to make way for new construction. The defeat of this proposed bylaw should be considered a victory for property ownership rights and future housing production on the North Shore.
