Second Park May be Coming to Georgetown
11.29.10

According to the Georgetown Record, the Georgetown Parks and Recreation Commission is looking for approval and funding from the town to begin the first phase of a proposed park that would be located on roughly 50 acres of land behind the New Life Community Church. The town currently has only one park, American Legion Park, which has become overcrowded lately as the town expands. Jim DiMento, chairman of the Parks and Recreation Commission, is looking to the Community Preservation Committee to receive funding to begin phase one of the project.
The project, which is now in the design phase, will be constructed in two phases. Phase one will include the access road, parking lots, utilities, a skate park, and possible some walking trails. Once phase one is completed, phase two would add sports fields, bathroom facilities, and storage units. DiMento believes the park could be finished within the next 2-3 years. The Parks and Rec. Commission is now compiling costs, and initial suggestions to the Community Preservation Committee are due by December 1.
